Tips for Choosing a Roofing Contractor

Many times when people do a renovation on their home’s exterior, it is simply by choice.  Over the years styles and tastes change and making the decision to update your windows, siding, and doors becomes more of a want than a need.  However, when it comes to your roof, there comes a time when that decision is made for you and you have to redo your roof to protect you home.

Your roof is what protects everything beneath it.  Without a solid roof the rest of your home could be in jeopardy of major damage and loss.  Even though the cost of a new roof can be substantial, it certainly beats the cost and stress of having to repair the damage caused by a roof that has been neglected.

To make sure you are choosing the right roofing contractor, here are 4 simple things to consider:

1. Check for a permanent place of business, telephone number, tax ID number, and where required, a business license and bond.
2. Look for a company that readily offers client references and a list of completed projects.
3. Call your Better Business Bureau to check for any unresolved complaints.
4. Insist on seeing copies of the contractor’s liability and workers’ compensation insurance and make sure the policy is in effect through the duration of the job.

If you follow these 4 simple steps it can lessen the burden and stress of having to go through the selection process for a roofing contractor.  A little extra effort on the front end of a project such as this can save you a lot of headaches and potential expenses down the road.
